Cade Smith, Senior Vice President of Equipment
May 19, 2022 • Leader Letters
Hello Turner Mining Group,
I wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on our most important asset to the client and organization —each one of us. Mechanics, operators, staff and senior management, without each one of you we would not be able to accomplish what we do as a group. I want to thank each one of you for your contribution to the hard work we all do to make this team great.
REFLECTION
I challenge each one of us to take 5 minutes a day to reflect on why we do what we do. We work to support our families, our hobbies, lifestyle, etc. and in order to do so, we have to have a steady and consistent way to make money. Ask yourself this, do my actions each day protect myself, my family, the things you love and the way of life you have?
FEEDBACK
After you reflect on your day, look at the things that went well and consider the things that didn’t. Grow from what you learned. Along with reflection, we all need feedback. Constructive feedback can be hard to take and hard to hear, but it’s some of the most important communication we can do for ourselves and each other. Positive feedback is great to receive and has a way of making you feel accomplished and appreciated, so don’t be afraid to spread the good word. Just remember, feedback protects our most important asset: YOU.
OWNERSHIP
We have to take pride in our work and do our best with the tools we are given. Whether it’s a piece of equipment, wrench or laptop, we have to treat these items with respect. In some cases, the tasks we do can be quite technical and at times challenging. We’ve been equipped with tools to help us thru those times, making it easier to execute our Field Level Hazard Analysis, Job Hazard Analysis, Risk Matrix, etc. Please use what we’ve been given to protect YOU and your fellow workers.
CONCLUSION
As the Senior Vice President of Equipment, my job is to manage equipment and our assets. As you reflect on what you just read, know that we can have productive, safe days without hurting anyone and still meet our production goals. We just need to use the tools, training and visual-felt leadership to do the right thing at the right time. I want each one of you to be successful in your careers and be proud to be part of the team we have at Turner Mining Group.
